Poldo's smile

Ok, I know, Poldo is not Mona Lisa, but he deserves a portrait as well. Just look at his eyes...You can see all the love, the joy and the happiness of a dog who was astray and neglected, but now has found a reason to enjoy life!

It was October, Sunday 27th 2019. The weather was gorgeous, an incredibly glorious sunny day. After a quick lunch in Maam Cross we headed for Carraroe to visit some friends. Suddenly, just in the middle of the road, there was a border collie: young, emaciated, with the unmistakable look of a stray dog in his eyes...We stopped and approached him offering a bit of bread. A bit scared, but self-confident enough to accept our food offer, he came close to us, devoured all the bread and then questioned us (and himself) "Can I trust these two strangers? They were kind enough to give me some food, but...anyway..." Poldo allowed us to put him on the leash and to be lifted in the car. Once aboard he sat in front of me, looked directly into my eyes and then closed them laying his head on my knees with a deep sigh. We took him to MADRA, a dog shelter in Camus, for a mandatory five days period during which the owners of a missing dog can claim their pet back. Luckily for him and for us, no one looked for him to be back and from then on Poldo has become our big, stupid, adorable dog!
