Happiness is...

...a warm puppy!

This is probably one of the best-known quotes about puppies and, more in general, about the happiness of sharing your life with a dog.

If you are an attentive reader you may have noticed that I haven't used the expression "have a dog" in the phrase below and the reason is I'm deeply convinced that we aren't owners of these creatures. On the contrary, they chose us to enhance our life with precious moments of happiness and love. I can't explain the subtle, alchemic biochemistry at the bottom of their decision but I know that I've been carefully selected by every single dog I met in my life. And sharing my days with them all has been and is a privilege that no amount of money can buy.

In turn, I share this peculiar idea with many writers who described their relationship with dogs in much better words than mine...

“All his life, he tried to be a good person. Many times, however, he failed. For, after all, he was only human. He wasn’t a dog.” — Charles Schulz
There is no psychiatrist in the world like a puppy licking your face.” — Ben Williams
“A dog is the only thing that can mend a crack in your broken heart.” — Judy Desmond
“My little dog — a heartbeat at my feet.” — Edith Wharton
“Dogs are our link to paradise.” — Milan Kundera
